Amidst a fraud investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), sources have revealed that former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, is plotting to escape to a North African country.
Bello, 48, is accused of embezzling over N80 billion. Sources claim he possesses passports from a North African country and an Arab nation, where he allegedly has significant investments. His wife reportedly resides in the North African country.
Sources allege that under Bello’s administration, only a few areas, including his senatorial district, have benefited from projects such as hospitals. They further accuse him of mismanagement, corruption, nepotism, and killings, leaving Kogi State in a state of neglect.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian police have detained Bello’s female aide-de-camp (ADC) and other security details for allegedly aiding his escape from EFCC custody in Abuja.
The Inspector General of Police has ordered their immediate arrest on suspicion of aiding and abetting Bello’s escape.
The EFCC had previously declared Bello wanted, requesting all security agencies to place him on a watch list. The Nigerian Immigration Service has circulated a directive to apprehend Bello if he attempts to leave the country.
Sources suggest that Bello is preparing to post bail with millions of dollars or may attempt to flee to Morocco or Dubai, where he has alleged investments. CONTINUE READING
