Former lawmaker Daniel Bwala believes that President Bola Tinubu can govern Nigeria from any location globally, regardless of the presence or absence of Vice President Kashim Shettima within the country.
Bwala’s statement comes amidst concerns raised by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who expressed unease over the simultaneous absence of Tinubu and Shettima from Nigeria while the nation faces significant challenges. Abubakar suggested that the situation could create a leadership void.
However, Bwala refutes this notion, arguing that the presidency is not confined to a physical location. “The President is in charge of the country and can govern from anywhere in the world,” he stated. “Aso Villa is not a block industry, and the President is not a bricklayer.”
Bwala’s perspective aligns with Section 5 of the Nigerian Constitution, which empowers the President to exercise executive authority “in all parts of the Federation.” This authority extends beyond the geographical boundaries of Nigeria, allowing the President to fulfill their constitutional responsibilities from any location.
