On Tuesday, Auchi, Edo State, was gripped by intense tension as rival cult factions, Eiye and Aye, engaged in a violent clash. The incident resulted in the reported killing of an alleged Eiye member in the presence of his daughter.
According to social media reports, the perpetrators, believed to be members of the Aye Confraternity, arrived at the scene in a Lexus car. NaijaConfra, a platform dedicated to combating cultism, reported on the incident.
Naija Confra revealed that the violence was a retaliatory strike for an earlier attack on an Aye member named Emma, who was killed in Auchi on Monday. “The Aye member named Emma, eliminated in Auchi on Monday… was indeed carried out by members of Eiye, as the events of yesterday were a retaliation for that attack,” it stated.
Despite the presence of the victim’s daughter, the assailants reportedly attacked swiftly and abandoned their vehicle and weapons. Vigilante groups pursued the perpetrators, who fled the scene.
The incident occurred behind Farnet in Auchi, and videos circulating online show the deceased lying lifeless and the abandoned car.
The Edo State Police Command has not yet issued an official statement. When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor, indicated that he was unaware of the incident and requested a callback for confirmation. CONTINUE READING
