Tallest Woman In The World Dies At 77

Maria Feliciana dos Santos, the Guinness World Record holder known as the “Queen of Height,” passed away at the age of 77. The Brazilian-born basketball player had been battling pneumonia for several years.

Santos rose to fame in the 1960s after experiencing an extraordinary growth spurt in her late teens, transforming from an average 10-year-old into Brazil’s tallest woman. She became a household name in her native country, touring with circuses and winning the “Queen of Height” contest in the 60s.

Her legacy was further cemented when the 28-story Estado de Sergipe building in Aracaju, the tallest building in the city, was named the Maria Feliciana building. In May 2022, the Museu de Gente Sergipana honored her with a statue at the entrance to its site.
