Former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor, and his colleague, Isaac Kamalu, Commissioner for Finance, have submitted their resignations following a cabinet reshuffle ordered by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Adangor, in a letter dated April 24, 2024, expressed his rejection of the redeployment to the Ministry of Special Duties (Governor’s Office) and announced his resignation from the Rivers State Executive Council effective immediately. He accused Governor Fubara of interfering in his duties, including instructing him not to defend the state in certain legal proceedings.
Kamalu, in a separate letter dated April 24, criticized Governor Fubara’s claim of increasing the state’s monthly Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) by N27 billion. He stated that it was challenging to perform optimally amidst the current atmosphere of discord and bitterness.
Both commissioners had previously resigned in December 2023 due to political tensions between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. However, they were reinstated following a peace resolution brokered by President Bola Tinubu.
The resignations come amidst a minor cabinet reshuffle that also affected other commissioners. The reasons for the reshuffle have not been officially disclosed. CONTINUE READING
