The Nigeria Police Force has revealed the reasons behind the detention of Iwanger Ifeoma Akaya, the Aide-De-Camp (ADC) to former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.
Following an aborted attempt by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arrest Bello at his Abuja residence, the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Mobile Police Force ordered the withdrawal of Akaya and other security personnel from Bello’s detail.
According to Vanguard News, Akaya, a law graduate from Igbinedion University and daughter of former Delta State Police Commissioner Charles Akaya, was detained along with others for failing to provide clear details of Bello’s escape from his residence.
When contacted for an explanation, Akaya was reportedly evasive, leading to an order for her and other police guards to report to the Federal Territory Territory Criminal Investigations Department (FCID) for detention.
The Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, has denied allegations that Bello was escorted from his residence by Governor Alhaji Usman Ododo. Fanwo stated that Ododo did not assist Bello’s departure and that the EFCC’s claims were aimed at furthering their objectives.
The Commissioner emphasized that Bello is not evading anyone and is protected by an existing court injunction. Fanwo also reiterated that Governor Ododo remains a law-abiding citizen. CONTINUE READING
