The Nigeria Police Force spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has issued a stern warning to citizens about the potential consequences of careless and sarcastic comments on social media.
In a statement, Adejobi highlighted the Cybercrime Prohibition Act, 2015, which empowers courts to prosecute and sentence individuals for social media posts that cannot be substantiated. He emphasized that the police are actively monitoring online platforms and will not hesitate to apprehend those who make unfounded or defamatory remarks.
Adejobi urged users to exercise caution and refrain from making statements that they cannot defend legally. He warned that such actions could result in criminal charges and serious legal repercussions. The police spokesperson stressed that they will pursue all offenders, regardless of their status or influence.
