The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the appointment of Bayelsa State Deputy Governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo as the head of a 7-member committee to oversee the Ondo State governorship primary election scheduled for Thursday.
In a statement issued in Akure, the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Kennedy Ikantu Peretei, confirmed that 627 delegates will participate in the primary. The party has opted for an indirect primary, where only the delegates will determine the party’s candidate for the November 16, 2024 gubernatorial election.
According to Peretei, seven governorship aspirants have been cleared by the Senator Sam Egwu Screening Committee to contest in the primary. The 627 delegates have been selected from the 18 local government areas of the state.
The statement reads in part:
* “The Ondo State PDP Governorship Primary Election will be conducted by a 7-man Committee headed by Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.”
* “Seven aspirants have been cleared to participate.”
* “The International Culture and Events Centre (The Dome), Akure, will host the exercise.”
* “627 delegates from the 18 LGAs will elect the party’s flag bearer.”
* “Accreditation of delegates begins at 10:00 AM.”
