His Royal Majesty (HRM) Clement Ikolo, the King of Ewu Kingdom, has expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Army for the “fair treatment” he received during his detention. The monarch was detained in connection with the tragic killing of 17 military personnel in his Okuama community.
Ikolo, who surrendered after being declared wanted by the army, was handed over to Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central, on Friday. Upon his release, he thanked God, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and members of the National Assembly for their support.
The traditional ruler affirmed his commitment to assisting the army in bringing the perpetrators of the heinous crime to justice. Senator Dafinone commended the army for its professionalism, stating that Ikolo was treated with dignity.
**Preliminary Investigation**
Major-General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, informed newsmen that the army released Ikolo on bail to Senator Dafinone after preliminary investigations. He noted that while there was insufficient evidence to implicate the traditional ruler, it was premature to exonerate anyone.
**Ongoing Investigation**
Nwachukwu emphasized that the search for those directly or indirectly involved in the crime continues. He stated that Ikolo, being the guardian of the community where the incident occurred, had surrendered to the police before being handed over to the army.
The army spokesperson outlined that Ikolo’s release was in line with the armed forces’ adherence to the rule of law and justice. He encouraged other wanted individuals to surrender for questioning, assuring them of fair treatment.
Nwachukwu reiterated that those found guilty would face appropriate legal consequences. CONTINUE READING
