Six years after his enigmatic disappearance in Switzerland, German billionaire Karl-Erivan Haub has reportedly been found alive in Moscow, living with a Russian woman named Veronika Ermilova.
In April 2018, Haub, then 58, vanished while training for a ski mountaineering race in Zermatt, Switzerland. He was last seen alone in a ski lift, a deviation from his usual safety-conscious behavior. Despite a six-day search involving helicopters and alpine rescuers, his body was never recovered.
In 2021, a Cologne court declared Haub legally dead, leaving behind his wife, children, and the Tengelmann Group, a retail giant with over 75,000 employees. His brother, Christian, insisted that there was no evidence of Haub’s survival.
However, a recent investigation by German broadcaster RTL claims to have located Haub in Moscow. According to the probe, Haub made 13 phone calls to Ermilova’s number in the three days leading up to his disappearance. The calls, some of which lasted over an hour, raised suspicions of a planned escape with Ermilova’s assistance.
RTL and media outlet Stern speculate that Haub’s disappearance coincided with financial difficulties at Tengelmann and its expansion into Russia. A journalist involved in the investigation suggests that Haub’s “skiing accident” was a staged disappearance to escape legal or financial troubles.
The investigation’s findings remain unconfirmed, but they have sparked speculation and questions about the circumstances surrounding Haub’s disappearance and his current whereabouts. CONTINUE READING
