Sources close to King Charles III and within the palace have expressed concern over his health as he continues his battle with cancer.
According to Tom Sykes of the Daily Beast, individuals familiar with the king’s well-being have recently stated that “It’s not good.” One friend confided that Charles is determined to overcome the illness and is receiving extensive treatment. However, they added, “Everyone is staying optimistic, but he is really very unwell. More than they are letting on.”
Royal commentator Tina Brown has also hinted at Charles’s health struggles. She recently wrote that his cancer has brought Prince William and Kate Middleton “in frightening proximity to ascending the throne just when they had hoped for a span of years to parent their children out of the public eye.” Sources have indicated that the prospect of taking on royal responsibilities prematurely is causing them “intense anxiety.”
Sykes also reported that the king’s funeral plans, known as “Operation Menai Bridge,” are under review. A separate document outlining areas for improvement in royal funeral arrangements is also being circulated, according to the Daily Beast.
While royal funeral plans are routinely reviewed, a former palace staffer acknowledged that Charles’s health has given the process a sense of urgency. “The plans have been dusted off and are actively being kept up to date,” the former staffer said, adding that the king’s cancer diagnosis has “certainly focused minds.”
Buckingham Palace announced in February that Charles had been diagnosed with cancer after undergoing surgery for a benign prostate enlargement. CONTINUE READING
