A rainstorm wreaked havoc on the old Suleja Correctional Centre in Niger State on Wednesday night, leading to the escape of multiple inmates.
The storm, accompanied by torrential rain around 9pm, damaged sections of the facility, including the inner fence that secured an inmate cell. As a result, several inmates managed to escape.
A local resident confirmed the incident, stating that they apprehended two escaped inmates and turned them over to prison authorities. The extent of the damage and the exact number of inmates who escaped remain unknown at this time.
