The Osun State Police Command has apprehended four suspects for allegedly conspiring to murder a 45-year-old woman for money rituals in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Command spokesperson SP Yemisi Opalola disclosed this during a parade of the suspects in Osogbo on Friday, April 19, 2024.
Opalola stated that the arrests stemmed from a missing person report filed by the victim’s son at the Apomu Police Division in Osun.
“On March 18, at 5:10 p.m., a complainant reported that on March 13, at around 10:00 a.m., her mother, Usman Aminat, 45, left home for lyana Ajia-lbadan, Oyo State to visit Onifade Oyekanmi,” the PPRO said. “He stated that since his mother left home, her cell phones were switched off and her whereabouts were unknown, and that he strongly suspected Oyekanmi, who is an herbalist, of involvement in her disappearance.”
“The said Onifade was subsequently arrested, and the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Osogbo, Osun, for further investigation.”
Opalola explained that the suspect’s confession led to the arrest of the three other suspects. She revealed that all the suspects confessed to their individual roles, acknowledging that they conspired to use the victim for money-making rituals.
“Search warrants were executed on the suspects’ homes and premises, where three bottles containing black substance suspected to be burnt human parts, two cutlasses, a big black clay pot, and some black soaps were recovered,” Opalola said.
She added that a female neighbor of one of the suspects, who assisted in concealing his share of the powder substance, was also arrested. However, she was later granted administrative bail due to nursing a four-month-old baby.
According to the police spokesperson, the suspects confessed to strangling the victim to death in Oyekanmi’s house and dismembering her body.
“They admitted to mixing the victim’s intestine with that of a dog, pig, goat, and other herbs in a black clay pot, burning everything to a black powder which they shared among themselves,” Opalola added. “Onifade also confessed to burning the victim’s two cell phones after killing her to avoid being traced.”
Opalola stated that the suspects would be charged to court after the completion of the investigation. She urged residents to provide prompt and credible information to the police and report any suspicious activities or individuals in their communities. CONTINUE READING
