Operatives of the Edo State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit have apprehended individuals affiliated with the Black Axe and Eiye cult groups for the murders of three individuals in Auchi, Etsako Local Government Area.
Following the reported killing of Emmanuel Odiase, an alleged Black Axe member, in the presence of his daughter by Eiye cult members, the police initiated an investigation.
Command spokesperson Chidi Nwabuzor confirmed the arrests after a high-speed pursuit by police and vigilantes. The operatives also seized weapons, ammunition, and other dangerous items from the suspects.
“On April 18, 2024, a violent clash between Aye and Eiye cult members resulted in the shooting death of Umoru,” Nwabuzor stated. “Operatives responded and apprehended seven Black Axe members.”
“On April 22, 2024, Emmanuel Odiase, a Black Axe member, was killed in Auchi by Eiye cult members,” he continued.
“On April 23, 2024, Braimoh Fulani, 43, was murdered in his Auchi provision shop by Aye cult members,” Nwabuzor added. “Police, assisted by vigilantes, apprehended the suspects and recovered their weapons.”
“The individual in the red shirt is an Aye cult member who was alerted to an impending attack on Umoru,” Nwabuzor explained. “He fled, and Umoru was subsequently killed. He was later apprehended and confessed to his role.”
