In the town of New Karu, located within the Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, an intriguing event unfolded. The family of the late Esu Bulus Chetubo, a prominent figure in the community, made the decision to return the bride price they had received for their daughter, Naomi.
The bride price was earlier charged at N100,000, but on reaching the agreement, to the point where marriage list was to be submitted, the bride’s family surprisingly took just N1,000 and returned N99,000 to the groom, Mr Amos Philemon, who is from the family of Dara of Bwari, Abuja.
According to the bride’s family, the idea behind returning the money is to demonstrate the mindset that their daughter cannot be sold, as such, the money had to be returned, with only a token received as dowry to fulfill the culture of marriage.
