The ongoing saga at Lead British International School, Abuja, escalated on Tuesday when a parent confronted the student responsible for the viral bullying video.
Earlier, X user @mooyeeeeeee shared two videos depicting victim Maryam Hassan being repeatedly slapped by another female student. The footage sparked outrage online, prompting the school to launch an investigation.
On Tuesday, parents assembled at the school demanding resolution. The accused student, accompanied by older men, arrived amidst the crowd. An irate parent approached her, demanding accountability for her actions.
“Are you proud of what you did?” the parent asked. “You beat an innocent child. Did you give birth to her?”
The student attempted to evade confrontation, but the parent shoved her, reiterating her question. The student’s incoherent response was met with a slap from the parent, prompting intervention from bystanders.
The Lead British International School previously announced its investigation into the incident. The school’s counseling unit is assisting the victim with emotional and psychological support.
In a statement, the school emphasized its commitment to a safe learning environment and pledged to provide counseling and disciplinary measures for those involved. An investigation has been initiated to determine the full extent of the incident.
The school is reviewing its anti-bullying policies and implementing educational programs to combat the issue. It also urged the public to refrain from sharing the videos to protect the students’ emotional well-being.
Established in 2007, Lead British International School, Abuja, prides itself on its academic and moral standards. The school assures the community that it is addressing the isolated incident and preventing future recurrences.
