Twenty-one out of the twenty-three Local Government Area (LGA) Chairmen in Rivers State have declared their intention to remain in office beyond the expiration of their tenure in June.

They said that the recently amended law empowers them to stay additional six months in office.

The LG Chairmen said LG elections ought to have been concluded and the winners awaiting swearing in but Governor Sim Fubara has shown no interest in conducting the LG election.

The chairmen said they’ll remain in office because the law as amended by the Rivers State House of Assembly says so. According to chairmen, the law gives them additional six month and they’ll remain in office after the expiration of their tenure. READ THE FULL ARTICLE
