BREAKING: Grief As Former Minister Bayo Lawal Dies

Air Vice Marshal Adebayo Lawal (retd.), the former minister of youths and sport and ex-military administrator of Benue state, passed away at 83.

It was learnt that the former minister had his last breath and passed away at his residence in the early hours of Sunday, June 23.

According to The Punch, his death was confirmed by Mrs. Yinka Enahoro, the deceased daughter, and by Air Commodore Sani Zakari (retd.), the Sergeant At Arms at the National Assembly.

In his words, Zakari said:

“AVM Frank Ajobena (retd.) further informed us that AVM Bayo Lawal passed on in his sleep in the early hours of Sunday, Jun 23, 2024.”

The late former minister was born in Offa in Kwara state on September 14, 1941. The deceased was one of the pioneer officers of the Nigerian Air Force. He joined NAF in 1963.

He had his training as a pilot of the Nigerian military in West Germany and graduated in 1964.

Lawal held several high-ranking positions throughout his illustrious career at the Nigeria Air Force.

His service to the country extended beyond the military. He was appointed the military governor of Benue state between July 1978 and October 1979.

He later served as the minister of youth and sports. After retirement, he ventured into business and devoted himself to faith-based philanthropy. He was buried in the Muslim way on Monday, July 24.
