BREAKING: Governors Sets Conditions For New Minimum Wage

The Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) has outlined a condition for implementing the new national minimum wage: it must be “implementable” by the individual states.

In a communique issued after a virtual meeting on May 2, 2024, the NGF stated that the new minimum wage is still “work in progress.” NGF Chairman AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq acknowledged recent wage adjustments and partial salary adjustments implemented by various states.

The NGF emphasized that the 37-member tripartite committee is actively consulting and has yet to complete its deliberations. The 36 state governors are currently reviewing their fiscal capacities and the potential impact of various recommendations to determine an improved minimum wage that all states can afford.

Additionally, the NGF agreed to consider recommendations from the National Summit on Justice, which include legal amendments and policies aimed at strengthening the justice sector. CONTINUE READING
