Asuspected dynamite attack on the Action People’s Party (APP) secretariat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, early Monday morning has sparked fears of political sabotage. The incident occurred around 1 am, with assailants allegedly throwing dynamite into the building, causing significant damage to property.
The attack comes amidst rumors that Governor Siminalayi Fubara plans to defect to the APP, following continued tensions with his predecessor and political godfather, Nyesom Wike, over control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
According to Punch, party officials believe the incident was politically motivated, citing the APP’s growing influence in the state.
“This is a clear attack on our party’s growth and progress,” said a party official, who wished to remain anonymous. “We urge the police to investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice.”
Although Neusroom’s attempt to contact the state’s police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, was unsuccessful, Punch reported that she was not yet aware of the incident but promised to confirm the report.
