Residents of Inikorogha communities in Edo State staged a peaceful protest to denounce alleged plans to remove security personnel safeguarding the area.
Carrying placards with messages such as “We Need Peace to Thrive,” residents expressed concerns about increased crime, including robbery and sexual assault.
Community Chairman Friday Benson urged Governor Godwin Obaseki to intervene and extend security presence. He praised the Governor’s efforts in maintaining peace and linking communities through road construction.
“We plead with the Governor to prevent the removal of security from our communities,” Benson said. “Security has significantly improved in the last 18 months thanks to the deployment of special forces.”
Philip Polo, Chairman of the Elders Council, shared similar concerns and called for additional security deployment.
“We commend Governor Obaseki for his infrastructure initiatives,” Polo said. “However, these improvements have attracted criminals who have made Inikorogha unsafe. Security forces have provided much-needed relief, and we urge the Governor to bolster their presence rather than withdrawing them.”
Residents emphasized that the withdrawal of security personnel would undermine the Governor’s efforts to foster peace and prosperity in Inikorogha. CONTINUE READING
