Fireboy DML, a renowned Afrobeats artist, has revealed that his collaboration with fellow musician Rema was a deliberate move to defy expectations of a rivalry between them.
In an interview with Apple Music’s Ebro, Fireboy explained that they chose to collaborate as they are both leading figures in the new generation of Afrobeats artists. “Myself and Rema are the two leading Afrobeats artists of our generation,” he said. “We came together and realized that instead of giving the fans what they want, which is beef, let’s collaborate. Because we are too advanced for this stuff.”
Fireboy emphasized that their collaboration extended beyond a mere club banger, showcasing their musical maturity. “We didn’t even give them a club banger, we made proper music,” he stated, adding that they have five more collaborations in the works.
The decision to collaborate came after Fireboy and Rema faced comparisons on social media upon their simultaneous rise to stardom. However, the release of ‘Compromise,’ a track featuring Rema on Fireboy’s album ‘Playboy,’ signaled their amicable relationship and put an end to the speculation. CONTINUE READING
