US Secretary of State Urges Hamas To Accept Cease-Fire Proposal

Secretary of State Antony Blinken has implored Hamas to embrace the latest cease-fire proposal with Israel. “The time is now” for an agreement that would secure the release of hostages and end the seven-month conflict in the Gaza Strip, Blinken asserted.

Hamas has maintained that a permanent end to hostilities and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza are essential conditions for releasing hostages. However, Blinken issued his plea during discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday.

Netanyahu reaffirmed his intention to advance the offensive on Rafah, believed to be Hamas’ final stronghold in Gaza. Nonetheless, Blinken emphasized Israel’s significant concessions in cease-fire negotiations, urging Hamas to seize the opportunity for an agreement.
