GAFAMORG has condemned the “double standard” in criminal cases, calling for the repeal of the immunity clause in Nigeria’s constitution. This demand stems from the recent legal battle between former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
GAFAMORG Chairman Agunbiade Tunde expressed deep concern over the state of Nigeria, citing issues of poverty, unemployment, and insecurity. He criticized the ruling class for “executive pen robbery” and “ostentatious living” while citizens struggle to make ends meet.
Tunde quoted Gani Fawehinmi’s belief that corruption hinders national development. He urged the government to prioritize anti-corruption measures.
Meanwhile, legal activist Wilfred Molokun has criticized the EFCC for its handling of the Bello case. He argued that the commission should refrain from engaging in media trials and respect the rule of law.
Molokun emphasized that the Federal High Court should be allowed to rule on Bello’s application to vacate the arrest warrant. He stressed that decorum and the rule of law should prevail in the conduct of all parties involved. CONTINUE READING
