Nigerian actress Sola Sobowale has responded to persistent rumors about her alleged arrest in Saudi Arabia for drug trafficking. Speaking on the recent episode of the ‘King of Talk’ podcast hosted by Teju Babyface, the 58-year-old film star revealed the shocking reports that circulated after she relocated to the United Kingdom for menial jobs.
Sobowale recalled how one of the most disturbing rumors claimed that she had been killed in Saudi Arabia after being caught trafficking cocaine. She expressed disbelief at the extent of the misinformation, saying, “That I carried cocaine? It was written here in Nigeria. That I was arrested in Saudi Arabia. That there, they amputated my leg and my hand.”
She continued, “When I returned to Nigeria, people were shocked to see me alive. They said, ‘Sola Sobowale is dead.’ I responded, ‘Do you believe in abracadabra? I am alive. I have never been to Saudi Arabia. I don’t even know where it is on the map.'”
In 2022, Sobowale had shared her experience of leaving Nigeria to work menial jobs in the UK to support her children’s education. She recalled leaving her lucrative acting career, which earned her over N5 million within months, for “7.5 pounds per hour” jobs such as cleaning, cooking, and mopping office floors.
Sobowale admitted that some acquaintances were surprised to learn that she had traded her fame in Nigeria for a life of caregiving in the UK. She explained her decision, saying, “My children are my future. There will be a time when the energy of Sola Sobowale will no longer be there. Then it is what you sow that you reap. At that time, Sola Sobowale was a baba carer. You will wash. You will carry. You will clean. You will do everything.”
Sola Sobowale is married to Oludotun Sobowale, and they have five children together. CONTINUE READING
