In a resounding victory at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary election held in Akure, former Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, secured the party’s governorship nomination.
Ajayi emerged victorious with a commanding 264 votes, leaving his six competitors trailing behind. Former House of Representatives member Kolade Akinjo took second place with 157 votes, followed by Afenifere’s former Secretary-General, Chief Sola Ebiseni, who garnered 99 votes. Adeolu Akinwumi received 64 votes.
Trailing further behind were Bamidele Akingboye with 24 votes, John Mafo with 9 votes, and Bosun Arebuwa with 2 votes.
Ajayi’s triumph is a significant milestone in his political trajectory. He previously served as Deputy Governor to the late Rotimi Akeredolu before his removal in 2020.
