Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Timi Frank, has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to expand its investigations beyond former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.
Frank’s call comes in response to the EFCC’s recent efforts to apprehend and prosecute Bello. He stressed the importance of extending the probe to include other allegedly corrupt individuals, particularly former governors, ministers, and public officials associated with both the previous administration and the current one.
“We commend the EFCC for pursuing Bello’s prosecution,” said Frank. “However, we urge the agency to also investigate other former governors, including Nyesom Wike, who have been accused of corruption.”
Frank highlighted the need for impartial treatment to avoid the perception of a political vendetta against Bello. He noted that despite petitions against several former officials from the Buhari administration, no arrests have been made.
“Former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami, former Governor Samuel Ortom, former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, and former Minister Hadi Sirika should also be investigated,” said Frank.
He also mentioned former presidential aide Tunde Sabiu, former NIMASA DG Bashir Jamoh, former FIRS Chairman Muhammad Nami, NNPC GCEO Mele Kyari, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio as individuals who remain unprosecuted despite allegations.
Frank emphasized that by holding all alleged corrupt individuals accountable, the EFCC would demonstrate its impartiality. He questioned the absence of any action against Wike, who has a pending petition before the EFCC.
“The EFCC must show the same level of commitment in addressing allegations against other corrupt individuals,” said Frank. “Their actions against Bello should not be seen as politically motivated.” CONTINUE READING
