On Saturday, April 20, 2024, gunmen believed to be herdsmen militia allegedly killed three young men in two communities in Adoka, Otukpo Local Government Area (LGA), Benue State.
According to Alfred Omakwu, the Caretaker Chairman of Otukpo LGA, the incident occurred in Entekpa and Uda Ibi, Adoka Icho community. Omakwu expressed concern over the ongoing violence in the area, stating that his people have endured months of unrest.
The attackers reportedly killed one individual in Entekpa and two others in a farm in Uda Ibi. Omakwu claimed that the perpetrators were herdsmen, despite the lack of recognition from local leaders.
“We have been meeting with their leaders, but these who come to our area claim to come from Nasarawa,” Omakwu said. “They are unknown, and their leadership is unknown. These are the violent ones.”
Omakwu urged authorities to intervene and protect the community. However, SP Catherine Anene, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), indicated that she had not yet received a report on the incident. CONTINUE READING
