A devastating road accident has occurred along the Owerri-Onitsha Expressway in Imo State, resulting in the deaths of numerous members of the Lord’s Chosen Church.
The accident occurred on Friday morning when a luxurious bus carrying church members collided with a Tipper truck. The congregants were reportedly traveling to Owerri for a weekend crusade.
According to an anonymous witness, at least 20 people are believed to have perished in the crash. “Over 20 people have died,” the witness stated. “The accident happened near Orogwe.”
Injured victims have been transported to nearby hospitals by concerned locals.
The Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident. He stated that over five fatalities have been confirmed, with an undetermined number of injured individuals seeking medical attention.
“Five victims are confirmed dead,” Okoye said. “The deceased have been taken to the morgue.”
The Commissioner of Police, Danjuma Aboki, has dispatched a police traffic team to the scene to assist with victim evacuation. A reinforcement team has also been deployed to manage the heavy traffic caused by the accident.
