The Kenya Police Service has detained Nadeem Anjarwalla, a former executive of Binance. Sources close to the investigation have confirmed that INTERPOL is preparing to extradite him to Nigeria within the week.
“Binance executive Nadeem Anjarwalla has been arrested,” a source stated. “He will be extradited to Nigeria this week by INTERPOL.”
The Nigerian government had previously located Anjarwalla in Kenya after his escape from custody. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), INTERPOL, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Kenyan Police Service have collaborated to facilitate his extradition.
Anjarwalla, who had been evading authorities, was apprehended in Kenya upon his arrival. A source had previously disclosed that “We have located him. We know his whereabouts; he is in Kenya. We are collaborating with authorities to return him to Nigeria.”
EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede confirmed the commission’s collaboration with INTERPOL, the FBI, and the governments of the UK, Northern Ireland, and Kenya to extradite Anjarwalla.
“The takeover of the prosecution against Binance executives by the EFCC demonstrates our commitment to combating market disruptions and distortions,” Olukoyede said.
Anjarwalla and Tigran Gambaryan, the company’s CEOs, face charges of tax evasion, currency speculation, and money laundering totaling $35.4 million. While Gambaryan is currently in EFCC custody, Anjarwalla’s extradition is underway.
