Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has disclosed that he recommended Peter Obi as a potential running mate to former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar in 2019.
Omokri made this revelation during an interview with Seun Okinbaloye on his podcast, Mic On. He stated that Atiku had requested his assistance in selecting a running mate, and he had suggested Obi.
Omokri also consulted with former President Goodluck Jonathan, who endorsed Obi’s candidacy. To present a broader range of options, Omokri included other names on the list while highlighting Obi’s qualifications.
**Omokri’s Loyalty to Atiku**
Despite his support for some of President Bola Tinubu’s economic recovery policies, Omokri has vowed to remain loyal to Atiku. He emphasized that he would not abandon Atiku to support Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
“I can’t do that,” Omokri said. “If Atiku decides to contest in 2027 and get the PDP’s presidential candidate, I’m duty-bound to support him.”
Omokri’s loyalty stems from the “great honour” he feels Atiku has bestowed upon him. He believes that it would be unethical to turn against Atiku and support his opponent in the next election. CONTINUE READING
