Since The Civil War Boko Haram Has Been Our Major Threat – Gowon

Former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, has described Boko Haram as the most significant threat to Nigeria’s stability since the Civil War.

Speaking at the launch of two books by Nigeria’s Ambassador to Russia, Professor Abdullahi Y. Shehu, in Abuja, Gowon expressed his concern about the group’s activities.

“Boko Haram has been a threat, perhaps the major threat to the peace and development of Nigeria after the Civil War,” he said. “It has created a serious problem.”

Gowon emphasized the importance of understanding the impact of Boko Haram and other security challenges on Nigeria.

“Understanding the debilitating impact and the deleterious effect of the insurgency on Nigeria is critical to developing innovative solutions to the problem,” he said. “This also applies to other security challenges that continue to undermine the stability and progress of Nigeria, including recent incidences of banditry, kidnapping, farmers/herders problem, and other violent conflicts.” CONTINUE READING
