Former National Assembly member Dagogo Farah has credited former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other leaders with preventing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from imploding at its 98th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
Farah, who considers Atiku the party’s National Leader, praised the outcome of the meeting as evidence of the PDP’s resilience in the face of challenges. He noted that prior to the NEC meeting, there were concerns that the party could face another round of crises as it navigated the selection of a new National Chairman from the North Central Zone.
Farah attributed the avoidance of a crisis to the political maturity and sagacity of Atiku and other leaders, who he said made timely sacrifices to keep the party intact. He stated that without their intervention, the PDP would have “played into the hands of some individuals, who wanted the party to implode to improve their political fortunes.”
According to Farah, the retention of Umar Damagum as Acting National Chairman until the next NEC meeting in August is a temporary measure. He expressed optimism that by then, Damagum would recognize the need for a “more purposeful and result-oriented leadership” and vacate the position.
Farah described the outcome of the NEC meeting as a “win-win situation,” with the party emerging unscathed and poised for further growth. He attributed this to the party’s refusal to succumb to the machinations of those who sought to exploit the leadership crisis for personal gain.
Farah concluded by commending Atiku and other leaders for their dedication to the PDP, emphasizing that their sacrifices and guidance had prevented the party from imploding and had set it on a path to recovery. CONTINUE READING
