On Tuesday, April 30, a tragic motor accident occurred along the Enugu/Opi/Nsukka Road at Ekwegbe, claiming the lives of six travelers.
The accident involved a white Toyota Hummer bus with registration number DAS 215 XA from Bauchi State. It is believed that the bus was speeding when it lost control and crashed into the fence of Maduka University.
The impact caused the vehicle to burst into flames, burning the 14 male and 2 female passengers beyond recognition. Sixteen deceased individuals were confirmed dead at the hospital.
Two passengers survived the accident and were taken to the hospital for treatment. Their injuries are unknown.
According to a police investigation, the bus was transporting edible vegetables, other food items, and luggage from Enugu towards Nsukka. The exact point of departure and destination are still being determined.
The Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, along with officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps, visited the scene to assess the situation. Uzuegbu expressed his condolences to the families and friends of the victims. CONTINUE READING
